Toy Story 5 Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story film debuted, establishing Pixar as a leading film company and bringing viewers to iconic characters like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a glimpse into the plot but leaving viewers wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang
The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a fair and assisting prize toys find good homes.
Surely, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Last Installment
At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip displays the insignia pinned to her shirt.
Hopefully she is still the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
