Lando Norris Edges Out Piastri in Brazilian Practice
Lando Norris has beaten his teammate at each of the last five grands prix.
Lando Norris just pipped team-mate and title rival the Australian for the quickest lap in the closing stages of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the title advantage from Piastri by one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before sprint qualifying due at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in realistic title contention, lying 36 points Norris, was classified in 17th place as his team followed a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to go off, albeit lightly, when he lost control at the fourth corner during the early running.
Tsunoda lost control over the track edges before rotating through the gravel trap, and was blessed to get away with just a slight brush of the barrier.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also lost it, at the final moments of the practice, spinning around through the high-speed corner leading to the last turn on to the start-finish straight.
Hamilton ended the session in 19th place, one place behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were significantly quicker of the rest of the field, with the German's Sauber in third, 0.619secs behind Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
